2005-2008

Art Raises Consciousness - Art Raises Funds

Artists for Peace (AFP) is a collaborative endeavor of performing artists of all types to present performances of socially conscious work with the intent of raising funds for organizations that promote peace and social justice.  Born out of the controversy surrounding the atrocities of the Iraq War, Artists for Peace gave its first performance in the Spring of 2005 amidst thousands of shoppers in the Stamford Mall in Connecticut.

2005
Artists for Peace joined forces wit
h Peace Action of Connecticut in August 2005 to raise funds for the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.  Funds were donated to Americares to deliver releif supplies to the war torn region.

2006
In April, 2006 AFP and Peace Action raised money for the Norwalk based Youth Empowerment Support-YES.  YES is a program to provide guidance and problem solving skills for youth attending the five Norwalk Housing Authority Learning Centers.

2007
AFP donated funds from its 2007 concert to Jewish World Watch for the purchase of 280 solar cookers for the women living in refugee camps in Chad.  The Darfur refugees must roam further each day in search of wood for cooking fires.  Outside the limited safty of refugee camps women fall easy prey to the Janjaweed militia patrols with their agenda of ethnic cleansing and genocide.  Solar Cookers make these forays outside the sanctuary of the camps unnecessary, safeguarding the refugee women and the children that depend on them.

2008
In 2008, Artists for Peace will be presenting its fourth annual concert at two venues: Crystal Theater on April 12th in Norwalk, Ct and Riverside Theater on May 3rd in New York City.  This years concert will be dedicated to raising funds and awareness for homeless veterans in America.  Proceeds from the concert in Connecticut will be donated to Homes for the Brave, a 42 bed homeless shelter serving veterans.  Tickets are available by calling toll free (877) 238-5596 or on-line at www.smartix.com
